The coasts of the United Kingdom are around the edges where the land meets the sea. However not all coasts have beaches. Here is a map showing the south of England, and the beaches that are along the coastline.
All coastal areas are different, as it depends on the action of the sea. So, the coasts in the UK are different to coasts in other parts of the world. However, the coasts in the UK are also different to each other. |

Where is Swanage? Swanage is in Dorset, in the south of England. Can you find it on the map of the south coast above? Swanage is a very popular seaside resort for holidays in this country, because it has some lovely beaches, e.g. Studland beach and it has many activities for tourists. What does the coast in Swanage look like? The coast in Swanage has many of the coastal features described on the features page of the website. It has some beautiful sandy beaches, but some pebble beaches too. Sand dunes can also be found in Swanage, which like beaches are depositional features, which tourists can use. Swanage bay is an example of a bay and Peveril Point is and example of a headland, can you find these on the map of swanage below? |

| Swanage is a very good example of a coast where erosion takes place, and this can be seen at the Foreland or Handfast Point, where stacks can be seen. These are natural features, and the stacks are called 'Old Harry' and 'Old Harry's Wife'. The natural arch that has formed is called 'Durdledoor' . Can you find these features on the map? |
